FAQ
What is The Garnet Way?
The Garnet Way is the way we’ll achieve our goals. It is about channeling the passion, energy hopes and dreams of Gamecock Nation into initiatives that create a championship caliber program.
Over the last two years, we’ve been in the silent phase of our fundraising initiative -- assessing, researching and planning our strategy of how to position ourselves to consistently battle for championships.
Part of that strategy was devising how to implement a new vision of the Athletic Department’s facilities master plan. We’ve been hard at work creating the resources and raising funds for new building projects such as the Dodie Anderson Academic Enrichment Center, on which we broke ground earlier this spring.
How do I get involved in The Garnet Way?
You can learn more about The Garnet Way at thegarnetway.org or by calling 803.777.4765.
What is the timeline for the Garnet Way?
We have projected a five year timeline for meeting our facilities needs, but the Garnet Way will be more than this. Two years ago we presented a roadmap of our master plan for facilities, and now we are releasing the road map of how we will generate the resources to meet these needs. We’ve been raising major gifts, building, planning, etc. in a quiet phase for the past two years and now we are including and asking for help from the entire Gamecock Nation to meet our goals.
Why is the Garnet Way necessary?
There are four components to creating championship programs: having a great university; a great community; the best coaches and outstanding facilities. We have the first three components solidly in place at South Carolina, but we have not had a focused strategy to improve our facilities. These are resources our coaches need to attract and train the very best student-athletes.
The Garnet Way is the roadmap for how we will build a nationally prominent program that consistently competes for championships.
Which building projects have already begun? What is the priority of building?
We have broken ground on the Dodie Anderson Academic Enrichment Center last spring. Our baseball stadium will soon be ready for fall practice. We have a new football training room in Williams-Brice which will be completed soon. We have the new Champions Club seating, which we will move into August 28th. We have recently enhanced our soccer and softball stadium seating, and are making enhancements to our basketball coaches’ offices. The Farmers’ Market property will greatly enhance our parking inventory. Our academic facilities were so out of date that our coaches deemed a new academic enrichment center an urgent need
